Information for Parents
Every Wednesday and Friday afternoon a group of children from the nursery will visit woodland with Sally and another member(s) of staff. The woodland we will visit is on the edge of Stretford Meadows, accessed at the end of Poplar Road, next to St Matthews School. We are currently offering Forest School sessions for children in the Gruffalo and Rainbow Fish key groups on Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1:30pm - 4pm. We hope to be able to offer Baby Forest School to the Very Hungry Caterpillar key group in the near future.
The type of activities your child will take part in will vary dependant on their age, ability and desire to take part. For insurance reasons, we are legally required to make sure that you are aware that these could include using string and rope to learn how to knots and lashings, den building, fire lighting, tree climbing, and using tools.
All activities will be supervised by our Education Manager, Sarah Wilson Crookes (Sally), who is a level 3 qualified Forest School Leader, fully qualified Teacher and Level 3 Paediatric First Aid trained.
We will be leaving nursery promptly at 1.30pm each day and aim to be back at nursery by 4pm. If you wish to collect your child during the time they are at Forest School, you will need to meet us at the woodland. The idea is that we go out in all weathers, exploring the woods, so children will need to dress appropriately. Our Kit List page should help you decide what your child should wear.
These sessions are great fun and contribute greatly to the children’s learning. If you want to find out more about our visits then please speak to either Sally or your child’s key person.
